Solar Austin Hires First Executive Director

Solar Austin is excited to introduce our first ever full-time Executive Director: Tatianna Cannon! When Tatianna joined our team this May, she kicked off an exciting new chapter for the organization, which has been run by the volunteer board of directors and part-time contract workers since 2003. This transition would not have been possible without the support from our solar community and funding from the Gannett Foundation, the Meadows Foundation, and our business sponsors

Tatianna has a wealth of experience in the nonprofit sector, including leadership and fundraising positions for the University of Oklahoma, Teach for America, and as a regional executive director with ALSAC/ St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Most recently she has been leading Aster Collaborative, which she founded to help maximize the scope and influence of nonprofit organizations for the greater good. Aster Collaborative assists corporations and programs globally in the areas of education, health and human services, non-profit management, business development, anti-racism training, political consulting, and much more.

Tatianna has assisted non-profit organizations as a consultant and as a keynote presenter on topics including fundraising best practices, public affairs and board management for nonprofits, diversity, equity and inclusion practices, generational philanthropy and work-place motivations, and educational issues as well as topics surrounding educational systems more broadly. It is these many skills and areas of expertise that give the Solar Austin board of directors confidence that she will be the ideal leader to take our organization to the next level.

While Tatianna is new to solar, she has already demonstrated a strong commitment to Solar Austin’s mission in her first month as Executive Director. She is eager to both learn and share her expertise. We expect that this key hire will enable Solar Austin to build on our success with the Pathways to Clean Energy Careers program and engage more fully in a variety of other work, including solar education, donated solar energy systems, and energy policy.

When you see her at happy hour or other events, please help us welcome Tatianna to the Solar Austin community!
